Author Beth Bernstein Pens Antique Jewelry Guide
“The Modern Guide to Antique Jewellery” explores antique jewels from the 1700s through the early 20th century.
“The Modern Guide to Antique Jewellery” by jewelry historian Beth Bernstein will be available May 12.
New York—Jewelry historian Beth Bernstein packed all of her antique jewelry knowledge into her latest book.
“The Modern Guide to Antique Jewellery” takes readers on a guided tour of antique jewels from the 1700s through the early 20th century.
It explores how to choose old-school jewels to match a modern-day lifestyle.
It also covers how to identify the most popular gemstones, materials, styles, and collectible pieces in today’s market, as well as how to value them.
Bernstein’s book acts as both an educational guide, celebrating the history of antique jewels, as well as a travel guide, pinpointing the best places to shop for these pieces in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London, and Amsterdam.
The book includes a directory listing stores, outdoor markets, and trade fairs worldwide for anyone looking to start or expand their antique collection.

Bernstein said, “I created a list of the people I thought were the top-notch independent dealers and high-end stores that I had the pleasure of meeting or doing business with or interviewing for articles and those that were not only knowledgeable but possessed integrity, jewels with authenticity and were wonderful about educating their customers.”
The collectors and dealers she’s met throughout her career were crucial when penning the book, she explained.
“It is an introduction to the world of antique jewelry and without the voices and expertise of the stores and dealers, part of the story I wanted to tell would have been missing.”
Published by ACC Art Books, the 192-page book includes 210 color illustrations to bring the story to life.
Bernstein has more than 20 years of jewelry industry experience under her belt as a historian, author, and journalist.
Her books include “If These Jewels Could Talk,” “Jewelry's Shining Stars,” and “My Charmed Life.”
She is a contributor to several publications, including Forbes, Jewelry Connoisseur, Rapaport Magazine, and The Huffington Post.
The book, set to publish May 12, is $35 and is available for pre-order via Amazon and other booksellers.
