JCK Publisher Mark Smelzer Departs

He is moving to Jewelers Mutual Group, where he will step into the role of chief content executive.

New York—JCK’s longtime publisher, Mark Smelzer, is leaving.  

According to, Smelzer, who has been in the role for almost 20 years, will head to Jewelers Mutual Group to serve as its chief content executive. 

The publication said JCK account executive Randi Gewertz has stepped into the role of advertising sales director. Editor-in-Chief Victoria Gomelsky will continue to oversee editorial content. 
Smelzer joined JCK in 2004 after serving as the associate publisher at Variety magazine.
He helped expand JCK’s reach into the digital arena, launch a podcast, subscription service and content marketing division. 
Smelzer has served as a consultant for various industry companies and groups, including working with Jewelers of America on its marketing initiative from 2018-2019, and has been inducted into the 24 Karat Club.
