Gemstone Spotlight: Unhada
While Jocelyn Prestia’s journey into gemstones started as a way to learn about them in order to sell antique jewelry, her belief that she could tell their story through jewelry brought her into the design realm.

While Jocelyn Prestia’s journey into gemstones started as a way to learn about them in order to sell antique jewelry, her belief that she could tell their story through jewelry brought her into the design realm.
Prestia, the winner of the 2015 Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year Award, started Unhada while she was living in Bangkok. She creates mostly one-of-a-kind pieces, setting unique stones that she has found on her travels in 18-karat gold.
“I would discover a gem and just envision the world it came from,” Prestia said. “I try to mix up different times and places to create a unique aesthetic while usually focusing on a trifecta of inspirations--my life in Asia, antique jewelry, and fairy tales and fantasy."
Among her collections are the “Dynasty” line, inspired by the Chinese dynasty period; the “Fringe” collection, inspired by the late Victorian period but with a modern-day take; and the “Diadem” collection, blending the old world European tiaras with the architecture and decors of Thailand’s monasteries and temples.
