Gemstone Spotlight: Katherine Jetter
Since she began designing jewelry, Melbourne, Australia-born Katherine Jetter has made it her mission to elevate opals, incorporating the gemstone into one-of-a-kind pieces and pairing them with diamonds and other colored stones.
Jetter’s azur pendant features a 40.10-carat fancy boulder opal accented with diamonds and set in 18-karat yellow gold suspended on an 18-karat yellow gold and moonstone chain ($48,000).
Since she began designing jewelry, Melbourne, Australia-born Katherine Jetter has made it her mission to elevate opals, incorporating the gemstone into one-of-a-kind pieces and pairing them with diamonds and other colored stones.
When she exhibits at the upcoming Couture show, Jetter will have a number of new pieces in the showcase.
The designer said that for the show, her jewelry will go in two directions--one including the stunning statement opal pieces she is known for, each unique and inspired by the stone itself, and the other using other important precious gemstones--fancy tourmalines, rubellite, spinel and star sapphires.

This ring features a 16.04-carat black opal with 166 round brilliant-cut diamonds and 130 round blue sapphire accents, made in 18-karat white gold ($52,000).
This necklace boasts a 70.32-carat black opal set in 18-karat yellow gold ($40,000).
This ring features a 32.12-carat free-form rubellite in an 18-karat yellow gold open cage setting ($23,000).
These earrings have 10 crystal opals bezel set in 18-karat yellow gold ($18,000).
Jetter’s collier necklace boasts 31 opals, weighing 59.58 carats total, made in 18-karat yellow gold ($24,600).
A 26.41-carat boulder opal is surrounded with orange and red sapphire accents and set in 20-karat yellow gold ($31,000)
Jetter’s platinum ring boasts an 18.22-carat blue tourmaline with 4.42 carats of orangey-pink trillion spinel accents ($82,000).
A 19.73-carat black opal surrounded by 177 red spinel stones in 18-karat white gold ($46,000)
Seven green tourmaline were inlaid in black tourmaline beads and finished 22-karat yellow gold to create this necklace ($16,000).
