Security Guard Charged With Murder in Shooting at Texas Mall
The guard opened fire on a man who was smashing a jewelry display case at La Gran Plaza in Fort Worth last week, police said.

According to the initial press release from the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the La Gran Plaza shopping center around 8:38 p.m. on Oct. 14.
The officers who arrived on scene were told that an adult male was smashing a jewelry kiosk stand with a blunt object.
Police said an armed security guard working at the center, later identified as 31-year-old Tyron Douglas Henton, was in the area where the smash-and-grab robbery was taking place and fired his weapon at the suspect, hitting him “at least” one time.
The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Deavyn Holt, fled the shopping center and ran across the parking lot, collapsing near Seminary Drive.
Police said additional officers arrived and performed life-saving measures, but Holt was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
On the afternoon of Oct. 16, Henton was charged with one count of murder and transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.
Online records show he is currently being held at the Tarrant County Corrections Center on $100,000 bond.
National Jeweler was unable to obtain Henton’s arrest warrant by press time but according to a report from CBS News, Holt entered the mall wearing a black mask, approached a jewelry kiosk, and began smashing the glass with a hammer.
He allegedly grabbed one display panel with gold necklaces attached and began running for the mall exit.
According to the warrant, Henton heard glass breaking, looked up, and saw Holt, who was preparing to flee.
Henton fired three shots inside the mall and two more shots as he chased Holt out of the mall, CBS News reported, citing the warrant.
Henton allegedly told police that he did not believe Holt had stolen anything from the kiosk and, according to the warrant, he “could not articulate any imminent threat Holt posed to Henton or any other person.”
The warrant also notes that surveillance footage showed Holt did not threaten anyone with the hammer as he was fleeing the scene.
