Columbia Gem House To Offer Alexandrite Melee Online

Vancouver, Wash.—Columbia Gem House has made its latest release of traceable calibrated Brazilian alexandrite melee available online.
Known for its color-change phenomenon, alexandrite displays a rich green color in daylight and shifts to a reddish-purple to purple hue under incandescent light. Large stones are rare and prized by collectors.
CGH said calibrated melee that is carefully sorted, graded, and accompanied by origin information is rarely offered online.
Its new release features parcels of calibrated rounds in 1–2 mm sizes.
While every parcel reflects the inherent variation that makes natural alexandrite unique, the company said, the material has been sorted to provide a level of consistency rarely found in calibrated alexandrite melee.
The gemstones are sorted into dark, medium, and light color grades with descriptions to help buyers understand the natural range of color and clarity characteristics.
According to the CGH website, the rough alexandrite in the collection comes from the estate of Hugo Mol, a respected Brazilian gemstone dealer whose career spanned more than four decades, from 1970 until his death in 2016.

His family has partnered with CGH to steward his collection, as the two share a commitment to responsible sourcing.
“Natural alexandrite has long captivated collectors and designers but finding it in calibrated sizes with documented provenance and consistent grading is incredibly rare,” CGH President Eric Braunwart said.
“By making this material available online and sharing information about its origin and characteristics, we’re giving designers access to an extraordinary gemstone with the transparency and reliability they’re asking for.”
Larger alexandrite stones from Brazil and other origins also are available upon request.
