Halstead Is Now Accepting Applications for Its 2023 Grant
One up-and-coming designer will receive a $7,500 cash grant, $1,000 in jewelry supplies, and more.
Applications for the 2023 Halstead Grant are being accepted now through May 1.
Prescott, Ariz.—Bead company Halstead is now accepting entries for its 2023 Halstead Grant, awarded to up-and-coming jewelry businesses.
The winner will receive a $7,500 cash grant, $1,000 in jewelry supplies, a trip to Halstead’s headquarters in Prescott, Arizona, and a trophy.
The recipient also will be given press assistance and a feedback report from the judges.
“The health of the jewelry industry depends on the continuous flow of new talent and design creativity. It is critical that new artists also hone their business skills in order to effectively manage their small businesses in today's global market,” said Halstead on its website.
The grant is open to both professional jewelry designers and students who want to pursue a full-time career in metal jewelry design and sell on a national level.
Participants must have a collection of jewelry available for resale that includes “significant” sterling or fine silver elements.
Businesses should be in their first five years. Applicants are allowed three attempts.
They also must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
The deadline for applications, available online, is May 1.
There will be a smaller number of finalists this year, said the company, but the prizes have been upped to a $1,000 cash grant and $250 in jewelry supplies.
Last year, finalists received $500 cash grants while semi-finalists received $250 cash grants.
The 2023 judging committee consists of Halstead President Hilary Halstead Scott, Halstead Director of Finance Brad Scott, Halstead's Marketing and Creative Manager Kelli Vanyek Greene, Halstead's Studio Coordinator Sylvie Alusitz, and guest judge Michelle Moyer.
Moyer is the owner of KP Studio in Phoenix, Arizona and the designer of Michelle Haumont Jewelry. A metalsmith for more than a decade, she began teaching her craft in 2013.
The Halstead Grant got its start in 2006, looking to bolster emerging silver jewelry designers while also introducing them to the process of creating a business plan.
The application process helps applicants strategize for entrepreneurship, said Halstead.
