GIA Rolls Out Less Expensive Report for Lab-Grown Diamonds
The revised Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report-Dossier still includes the four Cs but doesn’t list growth method or post-growth treatments.

Carlsbad, Calif.—The Gemological Institute of America announced Wednesday it is now offering a less expensive but also less detailed report for lab-grown diamonds.
The revised GIA Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report-Dossier now costs $55 for a 1-carat diamond, down from $85, and still includes the four Cs.
What it no longer includes is the growth method (chemical vapor-deposition or high-pressure, high-temperature), and it does not list any post-growth treatments.
It is available for lab-grown diamonds between 0.15 carats and 3.99 carats, an increase from the previous size limit of 1.99 carats.
GIA President and CEO Susan Jacques said offering a less expensive laboratory-grown diamond report aligns with its goal of increasing the number of lab-grown diamonds with GIA reports on the market while still giving consumers and retailers the information they want the most—a diamond’s 4Cs and confirmation if it is natural or man-made.

The lab said it will continue to include growth method, post-growth treatments, and a plotted clarity diagram in the full GIA Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report.
Rolled out by GIA in October 2020 after years of not using specific color or clarity grades for lab-grown diamonds, the report is for loose, D-to-Z lab-grown diamonds weighing at least 0.15 carats.
All lab-grown diamonds submitted to GIA are laser-inscribed with the GIA report number and the words “LABORATORY-GROWN,” whether they get a dossier or the full LGD report.
All lab-grown diamond reports are, and will continue to be, available in digital format only.
