Ind. jeweler shot and killed during robbery
The latest news reports indicate that police have four people in custody in connection with the Nov. 7 robbery and murder of a 79-year-old jeweler in Austin, Ind.
New York--An Indiana jeweler was murdered last weekend during a robbery at his store, marking the first homicide in the jewelry industry this year.
Indiana state police said last Saturday afternoon, someone entered John’s Coin and Jewelry Shop in Austin, Ind. and robbed, shot and killed the store’s 79-year-old owner, John Turner. He later was found by a family member, who called 911.
The latest update in the case came Thursday, when WDRB in nearby Louisville, Ky. reported that law enforcement officials have four people in custody in connection with the crime, though none have been charged with murder at this time.
Police took suspects into custody in the case after executing a search warrant at a home near Austin and finding money and jewelry tied to the robbery and murder.
The Jewelers’ Security Alliance said Turner is the first jeweler to be killed this year in the United States during a crime against a jewelry firm.
