RJC to Expand Scope to Include Colored Stones
After years of discussion and collaboration with its members and stakeholders and the colored stone industry, the Responsible Jewellery Council said it will review its certification scope to include colored gemstones.

Basel--Late last week as the Baselworld show began in Switzerland, the Responsible Jewellery Council announced that it will review its certification scope to include colored gemstones.
A major study by the RJC launching this month will focus on an expansion of its material scope--which currently includes just diamonds, gold and platinum--into colored stones.
The organization said that the move comes after five years of discussion and collaboration with its members, external stakeholders and the colored gemstone industry.
RJC said the next revisions to its Code of Practices will take place through the 2017 research and development phase, so expanding its certification scope into colored stones will be timely.
A taskforce comprised of multiple stakeholders has been established under Standards and Impacts Director Anne-Marie Fleury to undertake this work effective immediately. The taskforce will report regularly to the Standards Committee.
“It made perfect sense to announce this key initiative at the Baselworld fair,” RJC Executive Director Andrew Bone said. “RJC enjoys a strong supporter status with the fair and to have the opportunity to present this announcement in the foremost transparent and ethical trading environment is important to RJC.”
