23-Carat Pink Diamond Sold for $10M
Petra Diamonds Ltd. sold the stone, which it recovered from the Williamson mine in Tanzania last month, into a partnership between Golden Yellow Diamonds and M.A. Anavi Diamond Group.
London--Petra Diamonds Ltd. has sold the 23.16-carat pink diamond it recovered from the Williamson mine in Tanzania last month into a partnership.
“This sale result affirms that the market for high quality colored diamonds remains robust,” Petra CEO Johan Dippenaar said. “Pinks of this size and quality are incredibly rare, but the Williamson mine is known to produce them from time to time. This bodes well for the future of the mine as we continue to ramp up production and optimize the processing plant.”
The pink diamond, which Petra said has “exceptional color and clarity,” is the company’s most significant recovery to date from its Williamson mine.
It is also the latest in a run of exceptional diamond discoveries, including three from Lucara’s Karowe mine in Botswana--a 1,111-carat, Type IIa diamond found last month followed by two more “exceptional” white diamonds weighing approximately 813 and 374 carats.
