These Were the Most Exciting SAG Awards Jewels

The metaphorical awards show middle child managed a few sparkling jewelry moments.

Rachel Brosnahan wore Irene Neuwirth earrings to the 25th annual SAG Awards, held Jan. 27 in Los Angeles.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards fall victim to that unfortunate middle child syndrome—sandwiched between the Golden Globes and the Oscars, SAG Award fashions pale in comparison to that of its more prestigious and glamorous older and younger sisters.

Rather than utilizing the smaller occasion as a platform to take a risk (Michael B. Jordan, you’re the exception here, and I applaud your daring, even though Timothée Chalamet looks much better in a harness than you), one gets the feeling that actors and their stylists simply save their favorite sartorial looks for a bigger moment.

But there were a few exciting jewelry moments at Sunday’s 25th annual SAG Awards that turned this jewelry editor’s head. One of them was Lady Gaga, who continued her Tiffany & Co. parade, though with a very different look from her Globes diamond whoppers

Despite not picking up any statues for her turn in “A Star is Born,” Gaga was dressed to win in an edgy 18-karat yellow gold and platinum choker with more than 16 carats of diamonds, plus butterfly-esque diamond and 18-karat yellow gold earrings.

Both the choker and earrings are from Tiffany’s 2019 Blue Book collection. The starlet finished off the look with gold bracelets, continuing the maximalist jewelry trend we were delighted to see at the Globes but that was missing from much of the SAG Awards.

Rachel Brosnahan was the picture of an ingénue on the rise as she won accolades for her role in television series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” in whimsical Irene Neuwirth earrings.

The flat diamond pave bow style (which echoed the bow detailing on her strapless dress) received a hint of three-dimensionality courtesy of South Sea pearls. Brosnahan also sported a matching one-of-a-kind ring of the same materials.

No one told Jane Fonda to save the big diamonds for another occasion. The “Grace and Frankie” actress pulled out all the stops in Gismondi 1754.

From the fittingly named “New Diva” collection, Fonda wore a 20-carat D-color pear-shaped diamond ring valued at $3 million.

Her massive chandelier earrings were subdued by comparison; they featured 40.5 carats of D-color diamonds and cost $396,000.

Emily Blunt earned a SAG Award for her role in “A Quiet Place” and looked the part of an award winner in a fashion-forward ruffled pink gown and killer diamond earrings.

Her Forevermark baubles consisted of drop diamond earrings with 11.73 carats
of diamonds, a ring with 7.78 total carats of diamonds and a smattering of diamond bangles, all in 18-karat white gold.

The film “Black Panther” was one of the night’s big winners, and Danai Gurira, one of its stars, has become a must-watch actress for her red-carpet jewel and fashion looks.

Accenting a dreamy white feathered gown, the actress donned Bulgari high jewelry offerings, specifically a high-wattage bracelet with a mix of fancy cuts (17 carats of pear-shaped diamonds, 16.31 carats of ovals, 6.54 carats of rounds, 4.59 carats of heart-shaped diamonds, 1.97 carats of triangular-cut diamonds and 6.46 carats of diamond pave), diamond cluster earrings and a diamond ring.

“Crazy Rich Asians” actress Michelle Yeoh is known for wearing her own jewels on the red carpet and, until I hear otherwise, I’ll assume that her ornate, cage-like earrings with diamonds and mismatched color pearls and gemstones are a part of her personal collection, just like the Richard Mille watch she donned.

Yeoh’s “Crazy Rich Asians” co-star Constance Wu had my favorite jewelry look of the night. The starlet has been nailing her awards season looks in ethereal beige, cream and silver dresses, and though she looked as angelic as ever in her SAG Awards Oscar de la Renta number, she used jewelry to take her look up a notch.

Yeoh donned Harry Winston jewels: an ornate brooch on her dress and well as three upper-arm bangles in mixed metals with diamonds.

In an elegant white pantsuit, SAG Award winner Glenn Close had the perfect backdrop for a suite of gorgeous jewelry.

Dripping in Cartier, Close wore the Reflection de Cartier necklace in 18-karat white gold and diamonds; high jewelry earrings in platinum with diamonds; a vintage bracelet from 1941 in 18-karat white gold, platinum and diamonds; a Galanterie de Cartier ring in 18-karat white gold with black lacquer and diamonds; and the Coup d'Éclat de Cartier ring in 18-karat white gold with diamonds.

The addition of her late grandmother’s ring to the look lent a personal touch.

After hosting the Golden Globes and winning an award, Sandra Oh continued to sweep awards season with a SAG Award for her work in television series “Killing Eve.”

Her updo called for a pair of dramatic earrings, and Swarovski did the job with a long drop pair.

Amy Adams had a rare fashion misstep with her unflattering gown choice but she revived the ensemble with always elegant Cartier jewelry.

Her jewels featured a rare bit of color on the red carpet with high jewelry earrings featuring spinel and onyx alongside diamonds and set in platinum. She also wore an elaborate high jewelry bracelet in platinum with diamonds and the Pluie de Carter ring in 18-karat white gold with diamonds.
