Bulgari Creates a Minute Repeater No Thicker Than an iPhone
The Italian brand best known for its wrist-wrapping snakes continues to make its mark in the world of serious watchmaking with the introduction of the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater.
Basel--Bulgari, the Italian brand best known for its wrist-wrapping snakes, continues to make its mark in the world of serious watchmaking with the introduction of the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater at Baselworld.
Billed by the brand as the world’s thinnest flying tourbillon and thinnest minute repeater, the limited edition timepiece is powered by the in-house developed and produced BVL Calibre 362, which Bulgari said is 3.12 mm thick, and housed in a case that is only 6.85 mm.
To put that in perspective: Bulgari has managed to create a movement comprised of 362 components that’s only 0.12 inches thick and placed it in a case that’s slightly thinner than an iPhone 6 (6.9 mm).
The Octo Finissimo is limited to 50 pieces and retails for $155,000.
Also at Baselworld this year, the LVMH-owned Italian jewelry brand introduced the Serpenti Incantati, Serpenti Spiga and three new colors of Serpenti Jewellery watches as well as a five-wrap, two-tone Serpenti.

The Serpenti Spiga is a ceramic version of the snake available in either white or black (pictured here) with touches of 18-karat rose gold that is still a flexible and articulated Tubogas bracelet ($10,500).

Bulgari has three- and seven-wrap Serpentis and just welcomed number five. The five-wrap Tubogas is 18-karat pink gold and steel with a brilliant-cut diamond bezel and pink rubellite-set crown and retails for $30,900.
The 30 mm Incantati is the first Serpenti timepiece in which the brand’s iconic snake is wrapping itself around the watch case. The Jewellery version pictured here is rubellite and diamond set with an 18-karat pink gold case and satin strap ($43,200) and features a quartz movement. The limited edition Serpenti Incantati Skeleton Tourbillon (not pictured) is outfitted with the BVL Calibre 208 and is available in white gold ($188,000) or pink gold ($170,000).
