Renna’s Lobster Clasp Looks Like a Claw, Now It's Patented by Law
The designer’s new patent transforms the everyday clasp into her jumbo “Lobster Clasp,” modeled after the look of a crustacean’s claw.

Her jumbo “Lobster Clasp” takes the function of a traditional lobster clasp and pairs it with a design that gives it the look of a crustacean’s claw.
Brown-Taher was inspired to create an ornamental design for the traditional clasp when she found a crab claw while walking on the beach in Nantucket, the brand said.
As she sat in the sun with her newfound treasure, the idea came to her to marry form and function.
“While it is a piece born of function, it should also be appreciated for its form,” said Brown-Taher.
The clasp is available in a jumbo and small version, in 18-karat yellow, white, or rose gold.
The larger version features 0.30 carats of reverse-set diamonds to mimic the small spikes and texture of a claw.
While the smaller Lobster Clasp does not usually include diamonds, Renna is debuting a version of the clasp with diamonds in June at the Couture Show in Las Vegas.
Once she received a patent (US D1,052,444 S) for the clasp, she implemented it across nine pieces.
It is used in her charm bracelet, link necklaces, and beaded gemstone necklaces and bracelets.
“I particularly love using it when working on unique beaded projects as it adds a little extra character,” said Brown-Taher.
The jumbo Lobster Clasp and small Lobster Clasp are available in select pieces on the Renna website.
