One More Big Pink Diamond Heads to Auction, With $35M Price Tag
It follows a few other notable fancy color diamonds at auction this fall, with mixed results.

New York—It’s a fall full of pink diamonds, with another big stone heading to auction.
Christie’s has announced it will offer a 13.15-carat VVS1 clarity, potentially Internally Flawless fancy vivid pink diamond ring as a highlight in its Dec. 6 Magnificent Jewels auction in New York.
The emerald-cut ring is expected to sell for between $25 million and $35 million.
“Following the success of The Fortune Pink, which achieved almost $30 million last week in Geneva, we are proud to have been approached by a private collector to offer this incredible diamond at auction in December,” said Rahul Kadakia, international head of Christie’s Jewellery.
“This season has seen outstanding results for fancy-colored diamonds and this particular fancy vivid pink is of the highest caliber. With impressive saturation, step-cut facets and a clarity grade of potentially Internally Flawless, this 13.15-carat fancy vivid pink is magnificently rare.”
The ring was on display in New York on Nov. 14 and 15. Next it will be in Hong Kong from Nov. 25 to 28 before going back to New York to be showcased from Dec. 2 to 5, prior to the jewelry auction.
Two other big pink diamonds recently hit the auction block, to mixed results.
The “Williamson Pink Star,” an 11.15-carat fancy vivid pink diamond, sold for more than $57 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in early October, crushing its $21 million pre-sale estimate to become the No. 2 most expensive gem or jewel ever sold at auction.
With a per-carat sale price of roughly $5.2 million, it also set a new price-per-carat record for any diamond or gemstone sold at auction.
Then, just last week, the 18.18-carat “Fortune Pink” diamond sold for $28.8 million, at the low end of its estimated range, at Christie’s Geneva.
The first stone in a collection of rare blue diamonds offered at auction by Sotheby’s, meanwhile, failed to find a buyer in Geneva last week.
