London--The big finds for Gem Diamonds keep on coming.
The mining company announced Monday the discovery of a 149-carat, D color, Type IIa diamond at the Letšeng mine in Lesotho. The company said it is of “exceptional quality” and has an “excellent shape.”
This is the fourth high-quality diamond weighing more than 100 carats recovered by Gem Diamonds so far this year.
Last week, the company announced that it had found a D color, Type IIa stone weighing 910 carats at Letšeng.
This followed on the heels of the 110-carat and 117-carat diamonds found at the beginning of the year. Both were D color, Type IIa stones and also from Letšeng.
Gem Diamonds owns 70 percent of the mine, which is renowned for its large, high-quality white diamonds. It is the highest dollar-per-carat kimberlite mine in the world.
